GENERAL

BEST Conference Day

BEST Conference Day – Leadership in STEM is a conference where local and international students get to meet with corporate partners, as well as our institutional European partners, such as SEFI and FEANI. The Conference will take place in April 2024, in Belgrade.

In today’s rapidly changing society, we believe in the responsibility and opportunity that scientists and engineers, as well as businesses and universities, have in addressing important societal challenges. That’s why, this year, the projects and services of BEST are focusing on Leadership in STEM. Its purpose is to provide companies and universities with the possibility to get in touch with the most remarkable students from Serbia and all over Europe. Attendees will consist of a top-tier selection of hard-working, ambitious STEM students from Serbia and other European countries. Thanks to our partnering companies, universities and city councils, we will be developing and training these students to become the leaders of tomorrow.

The Conference will fill one entire day and it consists of a couple of series of events taking place simultaneously. Companies will be able to deliver their presentations, and engage in panel discussions, masterclasses, expert talks and many different activities. Participants are invited to the job fair, workshops and all other activities. Therefore, contributing partners will gain direct one-on-one contact with these students via tailor-made sessions, where their company is at center stage. Each of these sessions will be designed and predicated around the company’s knowledge and experience working around leadership in STEM.

The audience is composed of:

  • Around 170 international students coming from 30 countries. These students are the attendees of the General Assembly, including ninety presidents of local BEST groups
  • Around 100 local students from Serbian universities
  • University and City Hall representatives
  • Companies and Partner Institutions
  • Media partners

The General Assembly

The General Assembly is a BEST event that brings together all BEST local groups. From each local BEST group comes one delegate who will represent it, as well as the international executive board, representatives of international departments and all other participants who improve this European organisation as a whole. It is held twice a year – in spring and autumn.

The General Assembly organised by BEST Belgrade will be held in Serbia in April 2024, and the last time this event was held in Serbia was back in 2011. At the General Assembly, the future of BEST as a European student organisation is decided, the reports of each local group and international departments on their work so far are submitted, a new international executive committee is elected and much more. The General Assembly is divided into BEST Career Day and the days of the assembly itself.

ACTIVITIES ON BCD

 

Presentation

Companies will have the chance to deliver a ten minute presentation about their company’s views on the leadership in front of all the attendees during the Opening ceremony. Their speech will be live-streamed on all our media channels and to the whole organisation.

 

Expert Talks/Keynotes

Expert talks are engaging sessions where a representative from the company delivers a relevant pitch related to the Leadership in STEM theme. These talks would last thirty to forty five minutes and provide insights into the speaker’s position and experience within the company, followed by a Q&A session with the participants.

 

Panel discussion

Representatives from corporate partners, together with professors/experts from our partner European institution, will be guided through a facilitated one-hour discussion about related topics of Leadership in STEM, in front of the participants of the event. It is the company’s opportunity to bring their point of view on the current and future challenges in society.

 

Networking fair

The day is concluded with a Networking Fair, where companies can interact with the students and attendees of the event in a more informal setting and present company’s opportunities.

 

Career guide

This is a newsletter sent to the BEST Career Centre subscribers. Companies can help students make the first steps towards building their career and share insights on what skills are relevant for today’s workforce, how to build an interesting CV or any other career-related topic the company feels strongly about and wants to communicate about.

 

Workshops

After the Opening ceremony speeches, companies will have the chance to conduct a ninety minutes long workshop where they will engage with a targeted audience (twenty to thirty students) about a specific topic relevant to their company, related to the topic of the conference.

Technical Session/Masterclass

The masterclass is a ninety minute lecture provided by an expert in the subject, and aims to help the participants develop a certain skill. This can be any skill ranging from soft-skills to hard-skills Regarding the topic – Leadership in STEM. This session is aimed towards a more specialised audience compared to the workshop.

 

Speed dating

Our partners can, based on the CVs, select specific students among the participants to have a ten-minute 1-on-1 interview with, or personally invite them for an interview after the workshop.

 

 

CV database

Companies will have the opportunity to access CVs from engineering students from across Europe. Select your candidates from all available CVs based on your company’s interests, so that they perfectly match your needs.

The event that will be held in Serbia includes the “BEST Conference Day” with the theme “Leadership in STEM“, which is of an educational nature, and the international conference of eighty-five local BEST groups across Europe.

BEST’s European Conference is an event that gathersmore than two hundred students from technical-technological and natural sciences and mathematics faculties from Europe. In addition to the delegates of local groups, the participants of the Conference are also representatives of various international bodies and departments that manage BEST and improve it as a European organization as a whole.

The first part of the BEST’s European Conference is “BEST Conference Day”, which is a conference on the topic of leadership in STEM. In addition to numerous guests, this event will also be attended by local students who are interested in the theme of the event. The aim of the Conference is to show students the importance of leadership in STEM branches of science through interactive workshops, sessions and discussions, and at the end of these activities they have the opportunity to directly ask questions to leaders and representatives of today’s leading companies.

BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is an international, apolitical and non-profit student organisation, which provides students of technical-technological and natural sciences and mathematics faculties with informal education, development of their potential and support in starting a professional career. The organisation was founded at the international level in 1989, and so far eighty-five local groups have been established in thirty countries across Europe. BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is a non-profit and non-political organisation founded in 1989, that provides communication, co-operation and exchange possibilities for students all over Europe. Eighty-five Local BEST Groups (LBGs) in thirty countries are creating a growing, well-organised, powerful, young and innovative student network. BEST strives to help European students of technology to become more internationally minded, by reaching a better understanding of European cultures and developing capacities to work on an international basis. Therefore BEST creates opportunities for the students to meet and learn from one another through our academic and non-academic events and educational symposia.
